Autonomous Actors

An actor is an autonomous object with its own identity, private state and behavior.

Actors collaborate exclusively through message passing. They never expose or directly modify another actor's internal state.

Every actor is defined by five things:

Purpose

Why the actor exists.

Receives Messages

The messages the actor understands.

Updates Private State

The state that only the actor is allowed to modify.

Sends Messages

The messages the actor may send to other actors.

Spawns Actors

The actors it may create during its lifetime.
